Meet an Expert: Christopher Howey – Sales Director

Christopher first joined the Dyne Technology team in June 2011 to reinforce the company’s sales team, with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry and a successful sales background in adhesives. Since joining the Dyne Technology team, Christopher has continued to develop his skills and has become one of the UK and Ireland’s leading experts on solving the problems of adhesion.

Chris Howey Sales DirectorPlasma Treating is truly a fascinating industry to be a part of; with the rapid advancements in technology combined with the ever changing scope of problems faced, there are always new challenges to be faced and this really excites me. Plasma Treating technology is the little known glue that holds the UK and Ireland’s manufacturing industries together and as Sales Director, I hope to continue to raise awareness of this fascinating and highly beneficial technology.

Is Plasma Surface Activation used widely?

How does Plasma Treating improve adhesion quality?

Vacuum-Plasma-TreatmentIn simple terms, Plasma can be described as a super ionised gas. When atoms are subjected to high energy, the electrons around the nucleus begin to “boil off” and the increasing temperature results in the atoms being too hot to stay contained in orbit around the nucleus.

The free radicals and other particles that exist within the highly active plasma discharge can now attach to the material’s surface resulting in the formation of additional polar groups; this change results in the material now having a strong chemical attraction to paints, coatings, sealants, inks and adhesives. Not only that, but the ion bombardment allows the super cleaning of surfaces to remove organic contaminants.
